The SAO Tech Brewpub is next Thursday. EUGLUG's clinic will be
postponed to start after the Brewpub is over (i.e., a few minutes
after 7:00).

Kim, the speaker, is a friend of Anne's. I'm looking forward to her
talk.

at The Strand. Our speaker this month will be Kim Liegel, speaking
on process improvement in software projects. See below for details.

SAO-Corvallis meeting.

As always, I hope to see you at this month's SAO meeting.

Thanks,

May SAO Tech Brew Pub
=====================

  Speaker: Kim Liegel, PMP, Advisicon
Topic: CMM, RUP, Six Sigma, SDLC, OPM3...
What do these mean and why should I care?
When: Thursday, May 27, 5-7 pm
Where: The Strand, 8th & Charnelton, Eugene
     Cost: FREE

Each year it seems, a new tsunami wave of organizational "process
improvement" crashes over businesses large and small, leaving those in its
wake struggling to tread water from the often times short-comings of
half-baked implementations and lip-service support from top management.
Why do these "sneaker waves" keep coming? What do they serve, other than
making life miserable for those trapped in its path? Why should I care?

Like tsunamis, these process-improvement efforts start from somewhere
usually far away and external to the beachhead we occupy. Some would argue
that these efforts come from lofty, 30,000 feet ideas generated by
misguided executives bent on making their mark on an organization. Others
would argue that it's nothing more than a consulting come-on, driven by
money-grubbing "service providers" eager for new products to push on those
very same executives vulnerable to keeping up with the latest craze.

But what is fundamentally underlying these efforts to improve organizations
and why doesn't it seem as though we can ever really "fix the problem" that
these tsunamis attempt to wash away? Speaker, Kim Liegel, attempts to
answer these questions as she explores these various efforts and the
underlying problems they try to resolve.

Kim Liegel, PMP and author, has more than thirteen years of high-tech
experience leading high-risk projects at world-class companies Nike and
Oracle, as well as industry leaders Fred Meyer and HNC Software (now Fair
Isaac). The breadth of her experience includes multi-million dollar
software development projects, technology implementation and training
programs, as well as many organizational "process improvement" efforts
along the way. She has recently authored "Make It Happen! Step-by-Step
Project Success for Kids", represented by Lennie Literary Agency, and
provides training services through Lane Business Development Center and
Advisicon.

business-killing mistakes that can threaten high tech companies.
