At PEAK, we processed 600,000 messages a day for 10,000 email addresses using SpamAssassin. To do this, we ended up splitting our front end mail processing from our backend mail processing. We had two machines that supported spam filtering.
And 3 machines that managed the user interface to POP/IMap and back end mail management. So while SpamAssassin is a load generator, with the RBL and proper configuration, it was possible to process LOTS of mail. "Patrick R.
