I live at the extreme edges of the DSL service area in the Bethel/Danebo area of Eugene. I am paying about $15-20/mo for the 256k Qwest DSL -- Qwest has a small combo discount for combined services. It's typically another $15-25 per month for the ISP charges, but this can vary greatly depending upon the amount of bandwidth you are buying and if you are a business-class resource consumer.

Just got off the phone with Ray Cassaletti, and it looks as if efn's dsl offer survives the changeover to epud.

$33.99 in my area for 256k up/d'load. As Howard points out, this is VERY site specific, so where you live makes all the difference.

But I'm with him: even though qWest has their finger in the pie, it's in efn/opn/epud's oven, and that smells much sweeter to me.

I must admit I am very intrigued by the 802.11g wireless service starting to be offered by some local Internet service providers. I believe the service offerings are comparably priced to high-speed DSL and cable modem. If I my neighbor a few houses away didn't have a huge tree blocking blocking my few of the Coburg Hills, I'd probably be using wireless today. The local ISPs are mostly using work of mouth advertising, so you may have to make a couple of inquires. I know of at least two local providers and I suspect there are more. Ask around. [Circa $50-$60/mo for service].

This is intruguing. You imply we must be in line of site of the Coburg hills.

More, more! Anyone know any more details about wireless in this area?

Since I'm not particularly interested in cable TV, the cable modem (data only) rates offered by Comcast aren't particularly attractive to me as a consumer. I was paying about $55-60/mo for data only with Comcast locally a year or so ago. The cable TV + data combination discounts bring the month recurring costs down to merely ridiculous.

SO well put. That folks don't balk at paying the better part of 60 bux a month for tv and cable modem just wastes me. And bombast has come in and taken over SO many local cable companies. (Ours had long since been gobbled up--but they're doing it elsewhere, every town and middlesex village in amerika).

Don't forget, you earn good karma points and keep some of your money local by working with a local ISP. Everything be equal, I would rather support my neighbors and encourage others to do likewise.

Can't say this enough. Think locally--ACT locally.
