I realise this would more properly belong to Activism, but it does concern the internet, and civil liberties.
read this http://www.sg1archive.com/nightmare.shtml and tell me if there aren't several things wrong with this picture. Of course the the DOJ has a different take: http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/cac/pr2004/050.html There are several questions of fact and of law that would need to be answered before any determination can be made as to whether this is justified or not. If he was offering 30 second clips then that's probably justifiable as fair use; if he was offering full length episodes... that's more questionable. The fact that the PATRIOT act was used, and that the FBI computer forensics team still hasn't got it's act together on the idea that computers seized in an investigation are the property of citizens and ought to be treated accordingly is disturbing for anyone concerned about the erosion of the constitutional guarantees of due process and equal treatment under the law. And what the hell is the FBI doing getting involved in a copyright matter? This looks like a reprise of the Steve Jackson Games episode. Only now there are a whole host of new things that are illegal and a bunch of extremely questionable laws that can be used to ruin a person's livelihood long before they get their day in court. -- http://Zoneverte.org -- information explained Do you know what your IT infrastructure does? _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
