Part of what will have to change if OPN will have the least chance of pulling out of this situation is that the lines of communication will have to be thrown wide open and as much light shed on the current situation as possible. I personally was not aware of the severity of the communication problem, being guilty of assuming that it was being taken care of by others and by the forum on the website. I, for one, will try my best to answer any questions I can about the situation, simply because the veil of secrecy is one of the main reasons OPN (and EFN) got to where they are today.
The site is colo'd on a machine at Willamette.net. Matthew Winther ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) can provide further information about this if needed. The CTC computers have gone to the Network Charter School located in the second floor of the Broadway building. They will use the CTC computers for classes until we can find a new location. Part of the EFN/EPUD contract included a cubicle at EPUD for OPN's use. We may have to take them up on it given the situation, but it could only be used for administrative purposes, and not for public access. Dave Kilindt has made an offer to provide public access to one of the offices at the Willamette.net location, provided that OPN can staff it with volunteers for 8 to 5 Monday through Friday, and that OPN take on the cost of utilities after six months. It is a generous offer and was made yesterday, so there has not been any discussion on it yet by the Board. The basic reason OPN is moving out is that it ran out of money. The EFN sale provided OPN with some cash when EFN paid most of what it owed to OPN, and a $1500 monthly stream of income to OPN for the next 2 years. The EFN sale also removed the primary financial backer for OPN, and we had the opportunity and time to develop new means of funding, but in my opinion the opportunity was squandered by all, myself included, even though I was trying to develop new programs at OPN, including the evening classes and the program to clean up people's computers for a fee (De Buggin Shop). I wish I had had the benefit of this information when I was elected to the Board, but it's pretty clear to me that all I needed to be was a 'warm body'. I truely want to see OPN succeed in it's mission because I believe in it so strongly and am willing to donate as much time as I can to making it work.
