Walter,
        You might try checking with lsusb to see if the floppy shows up as
recognized by the system at all.  Then try inserting a disk and mounting
the floppy from /dev/sda if that works you can add a line to fstab which
looks something like this:
        /dev/sda /mnt/floppy vfat defaults 0 0
