John,

Thanks for forwarding Andrew's reply.

I have gotten feedback from some Eugene Lug members that a Unix person would NOT feel welcome at a MUG meeting.

My own personal experience(s) with the Portland MUG tend to support this assertion. Specifically the FREE exchange of helpful advice, which is so appropriate at a LUG meeting, is NOT so subtly discouraged by the MUG leadership, most of whom are Mac Consultants, whose livelihood is threatened by the free and often accurate advice one typically gets from knowledgeable LUG experts.

Andrew's presentation is specifically targeted to the MUG membership; the goal being the persuade the audience to buy a copy of his Stone Studio Suite, a set of Apps built from the ground up to run natively and in compliance with the OS X Aqua UI and the Cocoa standard.

A Eugene LUG member, who is also a Mac OS X developer, told me he won't be attending the local presentation because he hates the local Eugene MUG.

When I posted the announcement about Andrew's upcoming presentations, I should have (in hind sight) explained why I thought a Linux person should attend.

As a Linux person, you are certainly NOT Andrew's primary target market demographic; but if you are a Mac OS X developer ( or want to consider being one ), I feel that you would benefit by attending and observing how a successful ISV promotes/sells his product line to the Mac OS X end-user.

General Public - they'd welcome the chance to expand into the real
world of open source UNIX no doubt, given MacOS X is built on top of
FreeBSD.

Also - did you know that PEAK org hosted an incredible NeXT FTP site
for years?

The wording I remember:

falsely believed the author was Kipling.
