It's a big book which goes into detail about the underlying philosophy of each degree of Freemasonry (each non-secret degree, nyuk nyuk)

For each degree there are associated concepts (the Morals and Dogma of the title) that one is expected to study, comprehend and internalize. Fairly esoteric and entertaining - filled with quotations, analogies, and assorted references to spiritual figures and movements past and present. "Present" in this case means 1876 IIRC. The book is quite old, though it's been through quite a few printings.

Per, please feel free to add/correct me on this... it's been a while since I've really cracked it's cover. :)

That's striking - the Freemasonry literature I've read says that in

Traditionally. But sometimes folks are gently invited with no pressure.

Anyone else have their hands on a copy of Morals and Dogma? It's an
interesting tome.

Yes. A bit long-winded but still interesting. I do believe they have a copy at Smith's Family Bookstore still.
