Typically, they don't target "basic" phone service users. They are targetting the folks that have "extra" services, and include those in the basic price. Things like call waiting, voice mail, three way calling, call forwarding, etc. With my Vonage line, that's all included with my basic $24.95 per month service. To someone who makes infrequent L/D calls, I don't see much value in this. If broadband 'Net access is <= $50 and basic phone service is ~$20, it looks like a wash.
And, if I may say so, given that VOIP is about to make POTS service
obsolete, it even seems a bit steep. Are heavy L/D callers the target
for this service?
Better yet, all the features are configurable via the web site, so I can make changes anywhere I can get on the web.
LD calls anywhere in the US and Canada are a bonus, but not why I got the service. I save about $25 a month over what I was paying Verizon for my local service.
