Nope.
Slashdot has become less and less enjoyable... Too many people with too many far out ideas of what "should" be.

Whatever happened to "live and let live"??

- Likes recompiling the Linux kernel

Always thought it was silly to recompile everything because I plugged in a
USB camera.
That's why I use a distribution that this stuff comes pre-built... :)

But I know how...

- Likes The Matrix, Star Wars, Star Trek, Douglas Adams, etc.

Okay, you've got me on some of these.
Me too.

- Puts black lights in their PC cases

More silliness.
Why? What's wrong with it? My son enjoys fixing up his case as much as fixing up his car. It's a hobby and that's a good thing.

Just like some are good with writing code, some are good with hardware. Some even go on to DESIGN hardware, and they gotta start somewhere.

- Doesn't bathe

Current humidity in this apartment, post-shower would suggest otherwise.
As do I. However, there was a time (Junior high or so) that I washed my hair only, and took a shower about once a month... If that... Most grow out of it, but the stereotype remains.

- Has a Linux bumper sticker

Haven't got a car. =)
That's another sign. Many nerds/geeks/etc that I know espouse cars and bike or mass-transit everywhere they go. As it is, I don't know how I would get everything I do done without my own vehicle.

- Is addicted to diet soda

Eww.. Sugar in excess can cause diabetes and other health complications.
Aspartame in excess will cause cancer, death, etc..
Nobody has shown me any study that doesn't say, "A diet exclusively of aspartame..."

I've also read studies that show breathing to lead to death.

Life and death happen. You make choices.

I was always proud of nerdish tendencies. But still, it seems I'm no
longer nerdy enough to be part of the "geek movement" anymore. That's
fine I suppose--more chance of reproducing this way. ;)
Already replaced myself and my wife... 20 years ago... But I do remember when "nerdishness" and "geeky tendencies" were bad things.

Now it seems a good percentage of the gals out there want to marry a geek/nerd. When I was younger, only a very small percentage would even talk to "us".
