I have never played with owfs -- all my devices have too many wires. (-:

If owfs uses the usual GNU automake/autoconf tools, then configure
should leave behind a file called config.log (or maybe configure.log).
If you read that file, you can see exactly what commands configure
executed when it decided that owfs should be disabled.  It's an ugly
file and tedious to read, but if you're at wit's end...

To see the currently installed kernel modules, "lsmod" is better
than "modprobe -l".
