Check the cost of extended warranty if you buy a laptop. It's
worth it in most cases. For a desktop it may not be worth it.
>From a hardware POV Apple is over engineered. Having installed a
slimline drive on a larger Powerbook and offering to install a
new hard drive on Larry's machine I can tell you it's a lot of
work. Just the optical drive replacement involved removing 22
screws!! On a normal laptop it's usually not more than 3! That's
just Apple's laptops though. The Mac Mini takes a putty knife to
get into and there's only about a dozen screws in the whole
thing.

All in all, going from Microsloth to OSX may take some getting
used to if she's a Gates follower but the loss in downtime from
lack of viruses/adware/spyware is worth it IF she's the type
who's prone to getting it or she has kids/roommates/etc.. on the
machine.
