Using Galeon (1.3.3) on Mandrake (9.1) 'http//stocks' took me to a
'google' page with the URL 'keyword:http' where the first item listed
(of *'6,090,000,000'*) was:
"Microsoft Corporation <http://www.microsoft.com/>
The entry page to Microsoft's Web site. Find software, solutions,
answers, support, and Microsoft news.
www.microsoft.com/ - 21k - Sep 11, 2005 - Cached
<http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:VRA9OSkpgNsJ:www.microsoft.com/+http&hl=en>
- Similar pages
<http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=related:www.microsoft.com/>
"
Not sure that means anything

I have noticed that a mistyped url of the form
http//stocks
will at least in Firefox, on Ubuntu
take you to
http://www.microsoft.com/
a little packet tracing shows that it is initially getting no answers,
until it hits a root
and it then gets pointed to global.msads.net
can others confirm this?
Is this something that's been around for a while or what?
