EWEB Internet Update - Today I moved the DSL line to the 3N closet. The significance being there is dark fiber in that room to the data center - which is where the N building connects in. So Im 5 min and a couple of connections from having it up on the technical side.

On the political end - I had sent a request to managers asking them if they preferred wireless in the north building or wired. Almost no-one has responded which I will assume means they dont care. My preference is wired as well, as the connection security to the corp network was mickey mouse anyways, and I'd prefer to put those that need Corp on VPN from there.

I have had a request to enable some basic virus checking and content filtering on the firewall for that connection, but you guys didnt want to surf porn anyways right ? I dont block the geek sites, even though some of the tools are dangerous, so I woulnt think this would interfere with this group. outbound non-standard ports are not blocked either.

Sounds like no matter what day LUG chooses someone is going to have a conflict ( Wife requires me to watch Survivor with her on Thursdays ). I'll see what I can do about getting screen shots of calendars for those rooms for the months to come, which may help. Since you have meetings weekly you could alternate sites and/or days too.

It has been proposed (thank you, Mark Ellister) that EUGLUG could
reserve one of the classrooms at EWEB for our weekly meetings.

    Advantages:
close to downtown and the University
            ample free parking
            large, clean space
            tables, chairs, power

    Disadvantages:
food and drink (nonalcoholic) only if we pay a cleanup fee.
Internet connection is not up yet.
Need a few months' lead time.

    (What other advantages/disadvantages?)

The lack of Internet is obviously a deal breaker, so we won't change
anything until that's resolved. But Mark says he's working on it and
    expects results soon.

So. Please discuss. I think we should move to EWEB, but I'm just
    one member.
