It's worth noting that Country Western music is not even a little bit Western. These days, it's also what in the industry like to call "Town and Country". It's music for soccer moms! (RUN AWAY!!) The radio stations were forced to play some stuff from the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack because listeners who'd seen the movie kept demanding it, but in the words of one record exec quoted by the NYT (and echoed by me, though I don't recall his exact wording, Don't expect us to start playing this stuff regularly just because listeners want us to. Yes, he came right out and said that listener preference had nothing to do with what they played.
