What I wanted to say... When recommending Linksys routers it is best to quote the hardware version and firmware version which was tested and/or is being recommended. For instance dramatic differences in performance, security and QOS features exist between older WRT54G hardware versions and the more recent hardware versions supporting recent firmware updates. Also there are too many older models still out there floating around for sell advertised as "new" (but unused). Unknowing consumers might not be aware of the version differences. Be sure to check out http://www.linksysinfo.org. a great resource for Linksys router info and news about Linksys products, including hardware version news and firmware update announcements, and explanations of the differences between hardware versions and official Linksys firmware versions. The website is also a great resource for "third-party" firmware releases for Linksys products. Before shopping for a new router check the above website out for a list of serial number prefixes which apply to different Linksys models. Good to know when you want the latest hardware version, since often the version number on the Linksys product packaging is incorrect (and sometimes on the bottom of the router itself) and should not be relied upon. Linksysinfo website also has photos of all the various router models to help you make visual product comparisons. (Also be alert that Linksys is known to slipstream hardware improvements into their router products without announcing model or version updates... but that is another subject).
