Ben Barrett and I went to the Asterisk talk in Corvallis last spring.
While we were there, we both installed kphone on our Linux laptops and
got Free World Dialup accounts and chatted with each other through
borrowed headsets. We were sitting side by side... But it did work.

GoogleTalk supports "voice chat" on Windows. Gaim is adding voice
support. Not sure how soon.

The interesting cultural/legal/regulatory question is, How is
voice chat different from VoIP? If you run a voice chat server
(e.g., jabber) are you legally required to support E911?

Will the local police department have a VoIP address for E911,
so any tom, dick and harry can plug E911 service in?
