Pain is good if you're bodybuilding. Pain is bad if you're
installing software.
What's your card? Have you ever seen it work under any Linux?
If it's a PCMCIA card, is it in the supported devices list?

Oh, and BTW Ubuntu comes with a live CD that will let you see how well
your hardware likes it without going through the long install...
