Matt,

If checking hardware cable connections and jumper settings does not
resolve...

1. Are you stating that the BIOS POST report on screen during boot up does
not list the drive.

Does not show drive. First thing I see boot related is "No disk in Drive A"...

or if it does, the you are observing an error during boot up? If so what is
the error?

2. Not sure if this was implied already but did you try setting the hard
drive geometry to "Auto" in BIOS?

"Auto" attempt gives blanks for sectors, cyl etc.

3. Is this drive connected directly to system board or to a controller card?

to the system as primary controller 1

4. Does this drive contain BOTH a system AND boot partition?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've never known the drive to be partitioned in any way.

5. Did you install OS on this drive while another drive was also connected
(and which already contained both a system AND boot partition)?

Nope, not to my knowledge

6. Was this drive ever used in a multi-boot setup. If so which OS's were
involved?

Nope, not to my knowledge

Regarding your other drive you might try Acronis True Image v.8 and build a
Media Rescue boot disk within TI. I've solve a lot of drive issues with that
utility.

it was just a freebie 3 gig drive I was going to plug in for some more hamster porn space, but I'll keep Acronis in mind if Toby can't resurrect it... thanks...
