Yes, and no. Yes, the primary default gui is gnome. kubuntu has the
default gui as kde, but adding kde apps, or other wm's isnt very hard
(usually). Using synaptic you can search "kde" or "enlightenment", and
install all that apply (will automagicly find dependancies...)
I use enlightenment, so thats always the first thing I do...
I will be abandoning Ubuntu since it doesn't support my
unusual monitor. And since there is no XF86Config file,
I can't fix it.
ubuntu uses xorg (/etc/X11/xorg.conf)

Once I get back to a working Debian I will try FB again.
I had so much trouble booting ubuntu, that i never got around to
installing it on my thinkpad. The thinkpad is runing slackware and
win98, and everything works fine, so I may keep it slack...
Im not a debian user, but ive found ubuntu to be pretty easy, I would
imagine ubuntu would be real easy for a debian user, but maybe its the
opposite?

I switched back to Debian (stable this time). Flux still
doesn't work, same problem. I am using blackbox so far.
I had tried enlightment some time ago. I will try it again.
I will also try xfce4.

I finally had to logout and reboot. (Moving my computer.)
When I brought it up again I found, to my shock, that KDE
was not longer on my computer. And apt-get install failed.
The fail message implied that there was something
wrong with the package.
OK. Fine. I had been planning to migrate from KDE anyway.
So lets try Fluxbox; recommended by several folks on this
list almost a year ago.
Installs OK. But it doesn't work. Oh, it comes up. And I
can start things like terminals. But I can't resize them.
The decorations are completely missing.
So I installed several others: blackbox, fvwm, wmaker. All
of them can resize terminals. The online FAQ for fluxbox is
worthless, mostly talking about how to implement eye candy.
Fluxbox is all fluxed up. I don't know where to look. Any
hints?
