Since I am new to Eugene is EWEB serious about providing Internet
service to the public.

I can say that EWEB recently had a grant to look into the feasablility of BPL ( broadband over power lines ) ... turns out the transformers / substations or something is not of the type that works well ( not sure of the details ).. meaning expensive replacements to make it a reality.. have not heard of other means.

However...if anyone is really interested in geting into that topic ( BPL or the fiber ) with EWEB's board of directors.. John Simpson .. a relatively new board member is fairly tech savvy and wont give you blank stares.. in fact he has helped get the public network in the North building there.. he want his wireless during meetings !!! heh.
