Sorry, didn't see OP so maybe this is irrelevant.

I used SFU about 4-5 years ago for password
synchronization between an NT domain and some HP-UX
servers. It worked quite nicely. I've never used it
for any of the API, etc. type features.

At any rate, IIRC SFU won some sort of 'best product'
award at a linuxworld or similar conference a year or
two ago.
