On two occasions I have been asked [by members of Parliament!], 'Pray,
Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right
answers come out?' I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of
confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

I downloaded a new Firefox 1.5.0.1 onto my Ubuntu dual-boot box,
untarred it ; tried running the binary, and it crashes on startup. The
binary purports to be for i686, which might be the problem, as i'm using
Ubuntu for x86-64. Anyone had any luck or pointers? Am i going to have
to compile it?
