No, it's a feature. What happens if you "emerge -C xterm" ? Gentoo is screwy though. I went to emerge Gaim and it wanted a ton on Gnome crap. So I just grabbed the source and did it the easy way. :)
Perhaps "xterm" is thought of as part of the base system? Sort of the way Ubuntu thinks OpenOffice should be installed when all I use is Abiword and Gnumeric. Or the way Windows XP always installs Internet Exploder and Messenger by default. Oh well. What OS doesn't have it's flaws?
