I think I was whining about Ubuntu last fall. I had a "Really Bad Linux
Experience" with it. But, I went ahead and used it for the thin client
internet kiosk system I've set up for the Cottage Grove Public Library,
and I have to say it's an entirely different beast when it has a
working Internet connection. When you're able to go off to and update
it's packages, and get a larger selection of packages than what's on the
install CD, it's entirely usable. Gnome is the default desktop, which
isn't great but that can be changed. Their decision to move the "who has
the root password" question into "who's in the sudoers file" is, I
think, questionable security, but again that's easily fixed. I'd use it
again. I think the next release is supposed to be in April so you might
see if the wireless support has improved then.
