This is true but some company's ( Mail severs ) only store messages
for X amount of time to save on bandwidth and disk space on there
external mail servers.  I think it is a proactive practice to have a
secondary MX record ( If this is for a business. ) and message
storage. That is different from your physical site or where your mail
is being hosted.  That way in case of a wide area power outage (
Remember when the East Coast Blackout? in 2003? ) Mail can be stored
while you go rent a generator and or until the power comes back on.  I
only say this because there are some businesses that e-mail is a high
priority service.  When you lose e-mail messages and or lose Internet
connectivity.  Managers don't understand or care how it works.  They (
Managers) just think that e-mail flows into there e-mail box ( via
some kind of magic way. ).  They don't understand how e-mail works. 
They just want there really important e-mail with out having to call
the sender back saying can you send it again.
