The New York Times has always been the poster child for Old Media
That Doesn't Get The Web.
First it had paid subscriptions. Then it had free registration.
It used to charge a fee to view back articles. All are barriers
to letting people find and read its stories.
It's entirely in character that they'd mislead you into thinking you
were mailing an article and then send something else. Otherwise
people might actually read their stories.
Only washingtonpost.com is worse.
