Eventually I'd like to have a Solar setup (and maybe some other
types) feeding back into the grid myself.

No. I followed all the guidelines and had the system
installed professionally.
See http://www.energytrust.org for info on solar credits.
% IIRC you're not in Lane County or served by EWEB...
Right. I am in Benton county and served by PPL.
And so there is a alternative energy program.
% Does anyone know the local payback-for-watts policies?
The deal that I get is that I get paid retail for every watt I
produce
and feed back into the grid until I meet my own needs completely.
When
I pass zero and am a net generator of energy, I get paid whole sale
up to a limit.
I am only getting 10-20% of my energy from the system, so I am
unlikely to have a month where I am net zero, unless I turn
off all the computers in the middle of summer.
