Well, I could say that a lot of things would be better than getting burned, including buying on ebay :) It sounds like he hasn't researched the topic much, just call around and let us know, eh?

That's true

Is he willing to buy a used battery? Do you know if there are anything other than used batteries available for this, even? A used battery might make one feel like you got a bad deal, depending on your expectations!

If that what he needs to consider, he may go that route, not sure yet?

Has he considered a non-stock-item replacement, such as an external "laptop battery" or even just keeping it plugged in when possibly? You may be able to rig up something small to keep it trickling when it is in "sleep" mode, too -- or does this friend expect to be able to use it just like when it was new, from the power profile??

He'd REALLY like to use it this way, like out of the box, when it was new. Still I've been told it works well, when it plugs in.

This is an old enough machine... might I ask: What budget does your friend have? Laptop batteries are notoriously expensive, as we all might know :)

I don't think he want's to spend more than $100 bucks for a new battery, but something that will get him by on a full charge. He is looking at ebay, which I told him to check, he still doesn't trust it. Ack Louise is what I say about that!...

Batteries Plus is an easy phone call, and although someone else on the list might know... I could call them for you if you like.

best regards,

   Ben

Batteries Plus was one of the ideas I also gave him, but, I also told him call or go back to the place you got the laptop from and see if they have any batteries that are worth using, until you can afford a REALLY GOOD Cookie on a new one! ;)
