Yes... But Internet was alive and well in the 70's, but behind
locked doors. I used it in 1978...as Arpanet
And my experience with Fidonet was in fact a mirror of the
problems we have today. We still had fidonet idiots who
wanted to make a mess and as a result, many fidonet
policies were adopted to prevent the spamming, and the denial
of service attacks that fidonet could generate. We did a gateway
for Internet to Fidonet for years at OSU.
The only thing you can say about it was that it was slower... much
much much slower.
