If it works with the storage protocol, as Mr. O described, then go
with the storage protocol. If storage protocol doesn't work, then try
some more gphoto2 tricks.
gphoto2 --auto-detect
gphoto2 --camera "Nikon Coolpix 2200 (PTP mode)" -L
gphoto2 --camera "Nikon Coolpix 2200 (PTP mode)" -f some-folder -p some-file
