Long story made short: I want to put in an ID code into all the posts
that the Mailman software distributes to the subscribers. Something
embedded in there somewhere that maybe looks like a timestamp or
whatever - I don't really care. Can that be done?

I want to be able to identify the poster using this embedded code.

Why? Because some AOL idiots don't know the difference between the
"Delete" and "Spam" buttons on their computers and I'm tired of AOL
sending me Termination of Service Notifications and I fear getting
blacklisted.

Can this be done?

Now that I think about it more, I'm not so sure knowing the ID of the poster will help - I want to know who pushed the 'spam' button... I want to know who received it, not who posted it... hmmmmmmmm...

I'm considering blacklisting AOL. "You can subscribe to my list
unless your ISP is AOL."
