That does not surprise me.  I don't think dell makes much money
selling computers.  They make there money selling you service
contracts and replacement parts.

When I tried replacing the power supply in my Dell with a
good generic I got fireworks.  The connector looked the
same, but was not compatible.  I don't know if they play
shenanigans with their panel-mount computers, but I would
be wary.
