the list archives are transferred, it's just an apache booboo.
actually a filesytem and archiving braino.
symlinks in the proper directory were defined in terms of the
filesystem on the old box and apache was providing a very helpful
"Symbolic link not allowed" error message and I actually looked at the
directory a couple of times before realizing what the problem was.
So now you can enjoy full archival goodness.

for the interested heres the shell one liner i used to fix the symlinks
for d in $(ls); do unlink $d;ln -s /var/lib/mailman/archives/private/$d $d; done
