I didn't dig much into the legalese, although anyone would of course be advised to(!!), I often find better customer service when I act more like an "average Joe" so to speak ;)
The only tip I have on godaddy is that there is almost always a 10% (or better) discount available... I check dealcoupon.com for such things... hope this helps!! I share your annoyance with the undue extra fees just to keep my privacy a little stronger.
However, the federal place to eliminate your junk mail is the best way to cut back on unsolicited junk mail (I wish the phone-spam reduction was free, goodness gracious!)... the other thing you could do, if you have a number of them to register, is to start an LLC for $50, geta PO Box to go with it, and register them through that.
