My specific question was actually whether you can get raw video from the card -- that is, whether mpeg can be avoided at all with this card. Anyone know? Sounds like not!

mentioned with out encoding / decoding hardware. Your CPU usage
will be higher because you will be doing software encoding from MPEG-2
too what ever codec your transcoding too. Due to dual core CPU
technology, encoding / decoding acceleration hardware that is
supported under what ever OS you are using. You will not tax your CPU
as much as having one CPU or no hardware acceleration.
