Edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or XF86Config) and change the
driver line to anything at all like 'spam' then hit
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill X. It'll flash a couple of times and
complain it can't startx because of the driver. Then you can
install the driver. chmod +x NVID...., ./NVID.... . You may need
to killall gdm.
