If this is what you're referring to (or a different version number), then it looks to be python.
http://www.linspire.com/lindows_products_details.php?package_name=los-aol&pg=specs
So the usual "./configure ; make ; sudo make install " variant to build & install from source will not do it in this case.
Being that it is python, I can't imagine you'd need to recompile the bytecode (python is similar to java in this regard)...
The shell script in the above-linked package has a shell script at marlin_build_los-aol-0.0.6/losaol
refers to a document at /usr/share/los/isps/en_US/html/AOL_instructions.html
which might be worth tracking down for that Linspire distro... I didn't find that on google though :)
I see it is unfortunately unsupported by its publisher at present.

I've been trying to sign on to AOL using my Ubuntu box. I know my modem is working with my linux box, so now I need an AOL-dialer. I downloaded the tar.gz of Linspire's AOL-dialer, burned a copy of it and sneaker-netted it to my Ubuntu box.....now what? I can't seem to find any support documentation for how to install it. My friend said I should recompile it, but I have no clue how to do so. Any assistance on this would be much appreciated!!!!
