You could do rsync over SSH (for security), rsync has the throttle you seek
but be warned, I've seen some
inaccuracies in its throttling. There are also various wrappers I believe
which could be used to limit/throttle
the bandwidth, one being to use a virtual interface which is restricted.

There are many other options, this is just what came to mind right away...

PS - "man rsync", see "--bwlimit=KBPS limit I/O bandwidth, KBytes
per second"

I've got a few large files (backups) that I want to upload offsite. I
had originally thought that I needed to do so within an 8 hr timeframe

Then the idea came up yesterday of feeding the files a portion at a time
to their destination. If it takes 15 hours - who cares...

That's the general idea anyways...

Is there something out there that will do that?
