I'm having the oddest thing going on...
On an otherwise reasonably functional network, I see that sometimes I
can get out on the net, other times not, and sometimes it's fine one
minute then almost instantly - poof - nadda...
For example, to test I might do something like:
ping. www.red.com
and nothing happens... try again, nothing... and again... then all of a
sudden it works... ^c that and try again - doesn't work...
or do the above command, works fine, then nslookup fails, then up arrow
and it works, up arrow, fails....
It's not just my machine as this is reported (as best they can) from
other users...
It seems as though web pages that have been recently visited kinda work,
but not necessarily always...
A call to Comcast tech support suggested it was my firewall after
hooking up a laptop directly to the router... they assured me it wasn't
their dns server... sure enough it worked then, but once again it's a
problem...
Rebooted firewall (snap gear) and Comcast router... last time (Friday)
it seemed as though the firewall might have been the culprit, but
reboots this time around don't seem to help...
This happened the first time a couple weeks ago, but to my knowledge
nothing has been changed on our network...
It's starting to get on my nerves...
