Hi Jim, I have Qwest DSL and they provide you with a DSL adapter that does the translation from the DSL to Ethernet. (I say 'provide' but you have to buy/rent it of course!). The one I have says it running PPPoA, but to everything here, it just looks like a NATed Ethernet connection. You can turn NAT off, but the LAN side of the connection would still be vanilla Ethernet. I'm not sure you can completely turn off the PPPoA connection handling and take care of it yourself, I haven't seen any need to do so. The box I have here is an Actiontec GT701-WG it has Ethernet, USB, and wireless connections. I don't think Qwest is offering this model anymore, someone at work just got Qwest DSL and his doesn't have wireless. I think he said an adapter with wireless is available, but at a little more cost. When I signed up, the GT701-WG was the only one offered. I opted to buy rather than rent. Now, have I told you everything except want you needed to know? -- Tony _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
