Some of you have already heard this story.

Long ago, SGI bought MIPS Computer (creators of the MIPS CPU
architecture which powers your phones and toasters today).  MIPS' CEO
was named Bob Miller.  (Yes, it's a common name.)

CEO Bob resigned from SGI in 1994 (or maybe '93), a few months before
I started there.  So of course I started getting all his junk mail and
phone calls.

One phone call I remember well.  It was from the Democratic National
Committee.  It was an invitation to a fundraising dinner at the White
House with President Clinton.  Would I and my wife like to attend?  (I
was single then.)  Suggested donation was $900/seat.

I gave my regrets.
