One Linux developer is working with companions to create a dock-like bar that strongly resembles the one found in Apple's Mac OS X Leopard beta operating system. The project, titled Avant Window Navigator (Awn), tracks open windows using libwnck and features a 3D 'glass' platform where icons rest with faded reflections. The dock animates icons by bouncing them up and down, switching to a particular window when users click the mouse. Clicking a second time minimizes the window, according to the developer, and right-clicking brings up a menu exactly like the one seen on the window-list which allows for maximizing, minimizing, closing, or resizing. Dragging something on top of an icon activates that window, and the dock-like bar even responds to 'needs attention' and 'urgent' events. Further, AWN allows users to use a custom pattern behind icons in lieu of the glass texture. Avant Window Navigator is available for free under the GNU General Public License 2.0.
