You can vote once a minute! Vote once, vote often! VOTE UNTIL JANUARY 7th,
2008!!! Why? BECAUSE:

NextStep doesn't charge much for our services because our community
can't pay much for our services. As a result, NextStep Recycling does
not receive income to match it's operating costs. However! Lorraine's
dream, NextStep Recycling, is kicking the e-waste out of our landfills!
NextStep Recycling volunteers and staff have, in three short years,
recycled over 1100 TONS of local and national obsolete
electronics-keeping it out of our landfill, our water, earth, and air.
The NextStep family has also refurbished over 11,500 computers that have
been placed in the hands of marginalized community members-addressing
the digital divide and empowering people locally, nationally, and
internationally. Lorraine's leadership has motivated and inspired
hundreds of community members to donate their obsolete electronics
hardware, to volunteer their time, to educate our community, and to
offer increasingly expanding recycling and educational services to
address our waste production and REDUCTION-and encourage our communities
to think REUSE FIRST! before the landfill or recycling.

Lorraine has dedicated her savings and her life to the development of
NextStep Recycling; empowering community members who have barriers that
she has experienced in her life-poverty, lack of appropriate education
because of her developmentally disabilities, homelessness, and familial
abuse. Through access to technology as an older adult, Lorraine learned
that being poor, living on the streets, or lack of education did not
mean she was a lost cause. Lorraine learned through access to
technology, that she was intelligent, capable, and smart, smart, smart!
After her mother saw her first computer shop, even her mama said, "I did
not know you were so smart." Lorraine has learned she was smart,
capable, and powerful by using the computer, tearing it apart, putting
it back together, and helping others learn these skills.

Help Lorraine build this rockin' nonprofit that impacts thousands of
community members! A VOTE FOR LORRAINE IS A VOTE FOR NEXTSTEP RECYCLING!
HELP US PLACE TECHNOLOGY WITH OUR COMMUNITIES MOST MARGINALIZED
POPULATIONS! Recipients of NextStep computers report: increased
connections with their families (via the Internet and email); increased
knowledge of their health and disabilities issues (via the Internet and
list serves); increased connection with fellow students/disability
forums/web based classes; increased employment opportunities; increased
access to educational opportunities; and overall sense of connectedness
with the wide world! Help us bridge the digital divide and vote for
Lorraine!

Did you know that reusing ONE computer and CRT monitor saves:
 * 30 lbs of hazardous waste
 * 77 lbs of solid waste
 * 147 lbs (17.5 gallons) of water from being polluted
 * 32 tons of air from being polluted
 * 1,333 lbs of CO2 from being emitted
 * 7,719 kilowatts of energy

DID YOU KNOW NEXTSTEP RECYLING HAS KEPT THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF LEAD
OUT OF OUR LANDFILL? (Lead is a highly toxic substance, exposure to which
can
produce a wide range of adverse health effects. Both adults and children can
suffer from the effects of lead poisoning, but childhood lead poisoning is
much
more frequent). NextStep volunteers and staff responsibly handle the
hazardous lead and other wastes contained in monitors, batteries, and other
materials brought to NextStep.

DID YOU KNOW NEXTSTEP GIFTS TECHNOLOGY DIRECTLY TO THE MOST
MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITIES? NextStep gifts computers and
other
technology to: children and adults living in foster care, to persons who
experience disabilities, to migrant worker families, to family members
leaving
domestically violent relationships, to seniors and others living in
poverty, to underfunded schools and nonprofits, to rural native communities
in Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, The Island of Fiji, the Philippines,
Uganda, and hopefully in the future: Ethiopia, China, and Honduras.

A VOTE FOR LORRAINE IS A VOTE FOR OUR MOST UNSUPPORTED COMMUNITY
MEMBERS! THE MORE FUNDS COMING INTO NEXTSTEP THE MORE COMPUTERS WE CAN
PLACE! IT COSTS US $160.00 FOR EACH COMPUTER WE BUILD. SUPPORT OUR
BUILDS! VOTE FOR LORRAINE! IF SHE RECEIVES THE $25.000.00 GIFT FROM
VOLVO, IT WILL PAY FOR 156 COMPUTER PLACEMENTS. THE $100,000.00 GIFT
FROM VOLVO WILL PAY FOR 625 PLACEMENTS! WOOOOO HOOOOO!
