Hey sure thing.  You might want to read through most of
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Linux-Complete-Backup-and-Recovery-HOWTO/
although it is a bit outdated now, not a whole lot changes.  The best
methods depend on your goals, IMO, so if you want a system image (like
Ghost) then you will likely not want to use file-oriented utilities.
Just like those "new-fangled" encrypted file systems, you might also
want to check out UnionFS so that you can make incrementals easily.
As noted before & elsewhere, be sure to test your recovery process or
else don't bother making backups :)  Have fun & report back, I'm
always curious to know what's worthwhile out there on the bleeding
edge... starting to feel like an old fart here ;)
