Yeah, biostar isn't exactly known for quality :)  Anyhow, apparently this issue 
only comes up with the particular combo of the biostar n4sli-a9 and an MSI 8600 
GT.

Interesting. I have never once seen that and I've been using the
Nvidia drivers under linux since a Geforce 2 MX was a great
card. Unless you have a faulty card I'd look into BIOS updates
for the motherboard and even the video card. I'd suggest
additional searching with reference to Nforce4 to see if others
have had an issue. Biostar isn't known for quality so try to
rule out the chipset first.
