That's an odd error alright.  Don't know if you saw this, but at
http://marc.info/?l=mandrake-expert&m=117023974412725&w=2
someone had the same error and it seemed to indicate the
install/permissions were botched.  At the bottom someone recommened
chowns on several logging/runtime dirs.
