> 99.99 for 20mbps down 896kbps out? Wow, more than a 20-1 ratio on up vs. down speeds. You know at some point the limit on outgoing ACK traffic is going to start cramping the performance of your downloads. I guess the target market is heavy streaming video users (and other large file transfers) where selective acknowledgement (SACK) really pays off. But if I were buying this to support a household full of people all using the net at the same time (or for torrents), I'd be a little worried.
Also, of course, the 20mbps figure is a burst speed limit and doesn't reflect the committed information rate (CIR) of the connection. I'm sure that in populated areas the interconnect points will be saturated to the point where you don't normally get even close to the quoted maximum. > I could live w/ that although I hope they sell a business class that's > 12mbps symmetrical, Heck, I'd be happy with something like a 5-1 ratio (3-4 mbps outbound). But then again I run my "public facing services" from a co-lo and am essentially an "end user" with my home Internet. I wonder if any ISP is ever going to the point of providing "cafeteria style" plans where you can set the up/down speed based on a sliding price scale. Probably too much hassle for them. --Hal _______________________________________________ EUGLUG mailing list [email protected] http://www.euglug.org/mailman/listinfo/euglug
