I think that the ultimate solution to many of our wireless gripes and such is
a mesh-network of totally independent wifi-signal receiver/propagators (sorry
if I don't use the proper nomenclature but I am after all the n00b here
so...bear with me). Solar powered with some sort of battery back-up for dark
hours. I think the only thing that would interrupt the service would be an
unexpectedly long period of dark (ie nuclear winter..the next ice age....total
submersion underwater...you get the idea). If such events occur I doubt there
would be many left to bother with the internet anyway. However, in the
aftermath, (assuming we had the foresight to design them to deal with the
elements) if enough of the devices could be recovered, setting up the next
"internet" would take a lot less time.

It sounds kind of communistic and such, but lets get real,? the internet IS NOT
THE "PRODUCT"! Your access to the internet IS NOT THE "PRODUCT"! The "PRODUCT"
is a good, or service you offer the PLANET VIA THE INTERNET!!! Limiting your
access to the internet is a way of denying you the ability to offer your goods
or services to the planet. In my mind the answer is find a way to offer
"EVERYONE" free, fast, and secure access to the internet at the least expensive
way possible. Honestly I think the state would have much more luck managing
such a network than it does in providing health care. I think if we put as much
brain-power into that little mission as we do on "how to make money on Ebay",
day-trading, or war-profiteering, we could see the squaring of the average
human IQ over the next century....what wonderful "toys" those brains will
create eh? ("anyone up for solar-wind surfing?")
