I would suggest getting an all-in-one unit with a hefty warranty that covers both the interface and the drive. If data loss would be a problem, buy 2 or more. My priority questions for you would be: What problems regarding this unit would be unbearable, and how are they solved.
Looks like you don't need speed, but you want reliability. Unless you're an experienced hardware hacker, or at least system builder.
